Ma Pau target second spot

With unbeaten Digicel Pro League leaders, Defence Force not in action until tomorrow, W Connection’s and Ma Pau’s see-saw battle for second spot will resume, as tenth round matches kick off this evening with a double-header at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.
Defence Force leads the table with maximum 24 points from eight matches, seven ahead of W Connection who has played a match more. Ma Pau is next with 15 points with defending champions, bmobile Joe Puiblic, fourth with 13 points.

Tonight at Marabella, from 6pm, Ma Pau who was on a bye last weekend, will come up against Police, who is coming off its first win of the season, 2-1 over FC South End.

The Michael Mc Comie-coached Ma Pau is expected to be at full strength for the match while Police will be without suspended duo, Randy Harris and Neil Marcano.

On the otherhand, Police coach, Anthony Marshall said his was hoping the win was a sign of good things to come.

“It’s a motivation for us now. We face Ma Pau next and we are trying not to lose anymore,” said Marshall.

Should Ma Pau come away with full points against the lawmen, then W Connection will have a chance to reclaim second position on the 11-team table two hours later when it faces a tougher test in Caledonia AIA.

The “Savonetta Boys” have quietly crept up the standings and are coming off a comfortable 2-0 win over Tobago United while the Caledonia Stallions are yet to hit full stride this season, and are coming off a fifth drawn result, 0-0 with San Juan Jabloteh.

Tomorrow, Defence Force will journey to the sister-isle aiming to extend their win streak to nine matches with the suspended Corey Rivers and Kevon Carter in a 5pm encounter with second from-bottom Tobago United.

In the other matches, a Jevon Moris-less Joe Public buoyed by its 3-2 win over DirecTV North East Stars last weekend, host St Ann’s Rangers at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, and Jabloteh tackles South End at Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.
