FOLLOWING Saturday’s performance which saw Ma Pau Pro League outfit defeated Clint Marcelle Football Academy 7-nil at St Anthony’s Schools’ Ground in Westmoorings, coach Michael McCommie’s team will play its final warm-up match against the National Under-23 Olympic squad on Tuesday afternoon at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima from 4 pm.
However, Tuesday will be the final opportunity for players on the 21-man squad to vie for first team selection for when Friday’s first round of matches kicks-off in the 2010 Digicel Pro League.
It will also give Ma Pau coaching staff which also includes former national captain Angus Eve, a clear indication of which players are comfortable with in the team’s 4-4-3 system.
The coaching staff would also be hoping that Saturday’s goal-scorers Lester Peltier, Trevin Caesar, who notched a double, C. Thomas, Seon Powers, Shandell Samuel and Aquil Selby, will all continue to be sharp up front and continue to score more goals as they vie for selection.
Ma Pau’s aim this season is to get its hands on some of the titles that will be at stake among the 11 teams in the league.
So far, the coaching saff seems impressed with its new signings which includes Peltier, Elton John, Devon Jamerson, Joel Russell, Powers, the experience duo of defenders Keyeno Thomas and Cyd Gray and Shane Calderon.
The nine players have joined Lyndon Andrews, Caesar, Renne Britto, Dwayne James, Kerry Noray, Samuel, Selby, Shane Mattis, Mikeil Williams, Curtis Gonzales and Kevin Molino all of whom helped the team to a creditable fifth place in the league last season.
However, Ma Pau’s opposition on Tuesday will be better organised in defence with the likes of Lanky defender Daniel Cyrus, who scored when the Under-23 Olympic squad held Grenada senior team a 1-1 draw in a friendly encounter at the National Stadium, St Georges, Grenada last month.
Cyrus is a rising talent of Pro League club Caledonia AIA together with goalkeeper Glenroy Samuel, who has proved to be outstanding between the uprights.
The Under-23 team also includes Robert Primus (captain), Jevon Morris, Sheldon Bateau, Joevin Jones, Nicholas Walker, Marcus Joseph, Jean-Luc Rochford, Daniel Cyrus, Trent Lougheed, Jamal Gay.
